Measure the carbon footprint of central Arkansas so that we know which actions can have the biggest impact.
Bring light rail or a commuter train to central Arkansas. It would take a lot of cars off the road and could promote development around the stops.
Here are some ideas of where to start a line:
- along 630 corridor
- Conway to Little Rock
- Benton/ Bryant to Little Rock
Create a website that can serve as an information clearinghouse for green best practices for government so that all of central Arkansas can benefit.
Invest in retrofitting buildings in downtowns like Little Rock, North Little Rock, Conway, etc. to make them energy efficient. This would create jobs and encourage more investment downtowns.
We have too many huge empty parking lots because of city policy. We should let businesses decide how much parking they need, not government. That extra space taken up by parking could be used for more development or usable open space like parks.
The Green Energy Surge Protection and Energy Reducer has been installed in the Mayflower Municipal Building and has reduced energy use by 25%. We should install this type of system in all public buildings in central Arkansas.
